Wearing a New Hat on the Set of "If Only for a Moment" with Janel Tanna

November 8, 2016

Last weekend I had the opportunity to work with my gorgeous and talented new friend, Janel Tanna, on her short film, "If Only for a Moment," which was being shot as part of the Actor's Green Room (AGR) 72-Hour Film Challenge.

Janel wrote, produced, and stars in the film and was looking for extra crew to help make her dream a reality, so I jumped in as Second Assistant Director, which was something I had never done.

I've been a fan of Janel since seeing her at Grove Film Festival this summer, when she won the award for "Best Actress" for her moving feature film Sienna's Choice. Larry Rosen, one of my favorite indie directors who I've worked with several times, was set to direct her new film, so I jumped at the chance to be involved.

While I'm primarily an actress through and through, I learned a tremendous amount about filmmaking while working on the other side of the camera. It was helpful to see things from a director's stand point and at the same time I found it valuable to watch the other actors' work and to witness their process without having to be concerned about performing myself.

We completed the film in a weekend and submitted it by the deadline for the challenge. The plan is to release it in the festival circuit and I'm excited to see where it goes! The film stars Janel Tanna, Amanda Leigh Dameron, Michael Elian and Bethany Nicole Taylor.

I'm also excited to get back in front of the camera later this month for a short horror film that I'm shooting with some filmmakers that I truly admire. I'll keep you posted!
